The Department of Agriculture has announced plans to donate €4.8m to the UN's World Food Programme this year.

The Department of Agriculture has announced plans to donate €4.8m to the UN's World Food Programme this year.

The Department said the figure represented a 9% increase on the €4.43m provided to the programme last year.

The funding was announced at the opening of a global meeting of WFP staff taking place in Dublin over the next few days.

More than 100 million people in 81 countries throughout the world were fed by the WFP last year.
