The Irish Catholic Bishops Conference has said that it would be morally wrong to cast a vote in the citizenship referendum that would weaken existing fundamental rights under the Constitution.

In a statement, the Bishops said the subject of the poll is one with serious moral, social and legal implications, and have highlighted the importance of voters being fully informed of the implications of their vote.
