The Taoiseach has said a "No" vote in next Friday’s referendum will leave Ireland’s citizenship laws open to abuse.

Bertie Ahern insisted yesterday that large numbers of people were abusing the law to gain the right to reside in Ireland and the EU.

“The fact is because our citizenship laws can be so easily abused,” said Mr Ahern.
