The number of applications for asylum in Ireland this year are at their lowest level since 1997, according to Labour Party TD Joe Costello.

The number of applications for asylum in Ireland this year are at their lowest level since 1997, according to Labour Party TD Joe Costello.

Mr Costello said figures he obtained from the Government showed that 1,633 applications were lodged in the first four months of this year and that the numbers seeking asylum were falling steadily each month.
