Lord Mayor urged to engage in Euro debate

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Royston Brady, was invited today to a full debate on European issues by Green Party MEP Patricia McKenna.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Royston Brady, was invited today to a full debate on European issues by Green Party MEP Patricia McKenna.

Ms McKenna handed the formal invite to the lord mayor at the opening of a €6.5m sports stadium in Irishtown, Dublin.

The Green Party MEP said: “I formally invite the lord mayor to a full debate on Europe, because we’d all like to know his views on the subject. He has become the Scarlet Pimpernel of Irish politics and his views are more than just a secret.

“We’ve handed him the invite and now it’s up to him to accept.”

Lord Mayor Brady claimed that it was a desperate move by the standing MEP.

Mr Brady said: “While I’m here today, the only thing I’d say is that it smacks of desperation.”

Mr Brady is battling for the European seat in the capital along with party colleague Eoin Ryan TD, the Greens’ Patricia McKenna and Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald among others. Other politicians fighting for the seats in the capital include the Labour party’s Ivana Bacik and Prionsias de Rossa.
