The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has expressed her shock at the latest scandal to hit AIB.

The bank admitted yesterday that several senior executives had breached tax laws by putting money into offshore accounts run by its investment arm.

AIB said it had made an €800,000 tax settlement in relation to the matter and had also repaid €330,000 to two clients due to "unacceptable" practices at its investment arm.

Responding to the matter today, Ms Harney said anyone found guilty of wrongdoing should face the full rigours of the law.
