Sharon Shannon wins drink driving appeal

Sharon Shannon has won her appeal against her drink driving conviction.

The traditional musician, from Salthill in Galway, denied she had been driving her car, when it crashed into a parked vehicle on September 26, 2001 at Taylors Hill in Galway.

She had been disqualified from driving for two years.

But Galway Circuit court has overturned the conviction.

In a statement issued afterwards, Ms Shannon said it has been a very stressful time for her and her friends, and it was a welcome relief that it has come to a satisfactory end.
