McCabe: Taoiseach faces further criticism
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has come under further pressure in the Dáil over his Government’s apparent willingness to release the killers of Garda Jerry McCabe in return for an end to IRA activity.
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny criticised any plan to release the four IRA men convicted of manslaughter in connection with Garda McCabe’s death.
However, Mr Ahern defended his stance and said painful moves would have to be made as part of the Government’s efforts to bring a final end to the Troubles in the North.
