Nurses highlight links between poverty and poor health

The Irish Nurses Organisation has called for increased investment in healthcare, education and social policy in an effort to sever the links between poverty and poor health.

The organisation made the call to mark International Nurses Day, which takes place today.

The INO said statistics emerging from the developing world clearly highlighted the link between poverty and poor health.

Its general secretary, Liam Doran, said: "Working side-by-side with clients, service providers, community leaders, policy-makers and politicians, nurses will do their part to reduce the plague of poverty."
