British Govt planning local council shake-up in the North

The British government has announced plans to reduce the number of local councils and other public bodies in the North.

Ian Pearson, the British government’s local government minister in the North, has suggested that the number of councils could be reduced from 26 to fewer than 10, with the new bodies having more powers than the existing ones.
