FF remove party whip from Cooper-Flynn
Fianna Fáil TDs, Senators and MEPs have decided to remove the party whip from disgraced Mayo TD Beverley Cooper-Flynn.
The motion to expel Ms Cooper-Flynn was proposed by the Taoiseach at last night’s meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.
Mr Ahern and Ms Cooper-Flynn were the only two speakers at the gathering and the decision to remove the party whip from the Mayo TD was taken without a vote.
The move against Ms Cooper-Flynn followed the rejection of her Supreme Court appeal against her failed 2001 libel action against RTÉ, which accused her of encouraging investors to evade tax while she worked for National Irish Bank.
The Fianna Fáil Árd Comhairle is due to meet later this week to decide whether to also expel the Mayo TD from the Fianna Fáil organisation.
