Gardaí have named three of the four people killed in road accidents this bank holiday weekend.

Three men and one woman died in separate accidents around the country.

The first victim of this weekend’s road carnage was 47-year-old Peter Whelan of Fernhill, Arklow, Co Wicklow, who was killed in Co Carlow yesterday afternoon.

He died when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car near Tullow at 2.30pm.

Fifty-seven-year old Thomas Healy of Twomileborris, Thurles, Co Tipperary was killed in a two-car collision on the road between Freshford and Kilkenny yesterday.

Just before 3am this morning, 19-year-old Gordon Elliot of Corcaghan in Co Monaghan was killed after the car he was driving hit a bridge.

A 49-year-old Wexford woman, who died in an accident near Loughrea in Co Galway shortly before midnight on Saturday, has not yet been named.
