The number of people with medical cards in Ireland has reportedly fallen by 100,000 since the current Government first came to power in 1997.

Reports this morning said the only time over the past seven years when the number of medical cards in circulation increased was in 2002, just before the last general election, when eligibility was extended to everyone over the age of 70.
