Irish Punts still handed in to Central Bank every day

The Central Bank says that around 100 people still turn up at their offices each day with old Irish money.

One customer earlier this week brought IR£2,000 to exchange into Euro.

The bank will continue to take the old currency indefinitely, and will accept £3,000 in notes or £500 in coins on any visit.

Spokeswoman Elaine Mannix says they are surprised at the numbers turing up, more than two years after the euro changeover.
