FF politicians in Monaghan to boycott local elections

The Fianna Fáil organisation in Monaghan town has decided not to run any candidates in this year’s local elections in protest at the downgrading of Monaghan Hospital a number of years ago.

The councillors and party delegates said they decided to take the action in protest at the ongoing lack of services at the hospital and the Government’s failure to address the matter.

Environment Minister Martin Cullen, Fianna Fáil’s director of elections, said the move had come as a surprise and he insisted that efforts were already underway to resolve the Monaghan Hospital situation.
