Child abuse victim continues Dáil hunger strike

A 57-year-old child abuse victim has begun his fifth day on hunger strike outside the Dáil in protest at his treatment by the Residential Institutions Redress Board.

Tom Sweeney suffered abuse at the hands of the Christian Brothers at industrial schools in Artane and Salthill in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The Redress Board originally offered him €113,000 in compensation, but this was reduced to €67,000 after he chose to have a full hearing before the board.
