Three arrested in UDA bomb attack probe

Police in the North have arrested three men in connection with a failed bomb attack on an associate of former UDA commander Johnny Adair in Britain last year.

The three were detained in Northern Ireland today in connection with the discovery of a bomb underneath a car in the Halliwell area of Bolton last December.

The device was defused by bomb disposal experts before it could explode.

The target of the bomb was believed to be John Thompson, a suspected UDA member who fled to Bolton along with several of his colleagues following the expulsion of Adair from the organisation around 18 months ago.
