Tánaiste defends citizenship referendum

The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has defended the Government’s decision to hold a referendum aimed at removing the right of citizenship from children born in Ireland to non-national parents.

Yesterday, the Government announced that the referendum would be held in tandem with the local and European elections on June 11.
