Security forces search cargo in Belfast
A major search operation was taking place at Belfast harbour today.
Members of the security forces backed up by harbour police were examining a cargo, which arrived on a ship at the weekend.
The search is taking place at a warehouse at Gotto Wharf, which has been sealed off.
Police have confirmed that the vessel has now left and no-one has been arrested.
Reports have suggested that police were investigating a possible attempt by loyalists to smuggle arms into Northern Ireland.
But a police spokeswoman, who confirmed the search was taking place, refused to comment on the nature of the operation.
