Gerry Adams to meet Northern Secretary
Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is due to hold talks with Northern Secretary Paul Murphy later today.
The British government’s decision to delay an inquiry into the 1989 murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane is expected to be the main focus of the talks.
The two men are also expected to discuss Britain’s proposal to establish a truth commission in the North in an effort to help nationalists and unionists overcome the past.
Both Sinn Féin and the SDLP have expressed scepticism about the proposed commission, particularly following the British government’s apparent unwillingness to tell the truth about the Pat Finucane case.
