Six held in pensioner murder probe

Six men were arrested today by police investigating the murder of a pensioner in Northern Ireland.

Edward O’Hare, 72, died after he was robbed at his home between Banbridge and Newry, Co Down.

The six, aged between 19 and 37, are also being questioned about the robbery of Mr O’Hare’s three brothers on November 11 last year.

Officers searched 11 premises as part of the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Derek Williamson, heading the inquiry, said: “I believe there are people who know, or at least suspect who might have been involved in this ghastly crime.

“I want those people, whether they be family members, neighbours or friends to come forward now. It is not too late to do the right thing.”
