McDowell accuses SF of shaming republicanism

The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has accused Sinn Féin of using methods that would have disgusted the founders of our State.

Speaking at the Progressive Democrats conference in Killarney, Minister McDowell said the Provisional IRA have stolen and abused the language of republicanism.

The Minister used most of his speech at the conference to attack Sinn Féin and the IRA.

He said true republicans do not speak in muffled speech through balaclavas and true republicans do not break drug addicts' legs with baseball bats.

The Minister for Justice went on to say the truth is that the provisionals are the embodiment of all that is anti-republican.

He said the provisionals’ ideology, methods and values would have disgusted the founders of the state.

Mr McDowell concluded that the republic has one Army, one police and one constitution.
