Irish pay levels ‘among lowest in western Europe’

Pay levels in Ireland remain among the lowest in western Europe, according to reports this morning.

The reports said a survey conducted by the Federation of European Employers found that Irish workers were paid an average of €14.22-an-hour, compared to €16.12 in Britain and €27.89 in Denmark.

The study also found that chief executives in Ireland were earning 25 to 35 times more than their most junior employee and 13 times more than middle-management grades.

This morning’s reports said the survey would be a boost to union negotiators ahead of planned talks next month on the second phase of the Sustaining Progress agreement.
