Proposed Government plans to create a special security unit to deal with the threat of international terrorism have been shelved, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern confirmed today.

Proposed Government plans to create a special security unit to deal with the threat of international terrorism have been shelved, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern confirmed today.

Mr Ahern told the Dáil the formation of a new agency would cost a great deal, while co-operation between existing bodies had greatly improved since September 11.
