Govt urged to slow pace of decentralisation

The Association of Higher Civil and Public Servants has called on the Government to slow down the implementation of its decentralisation plans.

The Government is planning to move 10,000 civil servants out of Dublin before December 2006.

However, the AHCPS said today that move should be implemented over a longer period of time.

It said attempts to decentralise the public service in the space of two years could be detrimental to the overall standard of the service.
