UDA announces indefinite ceasefire extension

The Ulster Defence Association has announced an indefinite extension of its alleged ceasefire.

The move is believed to be an attempt by the loyalist paramilitary organisation to gain political recognition.

The UDA still claims to be on ceasefire, despite carrying out frequent attacks on the homes of Catholic civilians and prison officers.

Neither the British nor Irish governments recognise the ceasefire.
