UDA expected to announce ceasefire extension
The Ulster Defence Association is expected to announce an extension of its alleged ceasefire later today.
The loyalist paramilitary organisation still claims to be on ceasefire, despite carrying out frequent attacks on the homes of Catholic civilians and prison officers.
Neither the British nor Irish governments recognise the UDA ceasefire.
Today’s extension of that alleged ceasefire is believed to be an attempt by the group to gain political recognition.
