No danger to peace from republicans, says SF

Sinn Féin chairman Mitchel McLaughlin has insisted that republicans pose no threat to the peace process, despite the alleged involvement of the Provisional IRA in an attempted abduction in Belfast last Friday.

The Democratic Unionist Party has responded to the matter by seeking a British Government ruling on the status of the IRA ceasefire.

However, McLauglin tried to play down the attempted abduction today. “My view is it doesn’t threaten the Good Friday Agreement,” he said.

“There is no evidence whatsoever that the agreement or the peace process is under threat from republicans.”
