Brennan given deadline to provide financial information

SIPTU has given Transport Minister Seamus Brennan until March 18 to declare his financial plans for Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports following the proposed break up of Aer Rianta.

The union told a meeting of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions today that it had already given the Government plenty of time to provide such information.

SIPTU opposes the proposed Aer Rianta break-up on the grounds that it makes no economic sense and would leave Cork and Shannon Airports struggling to survive.

The Government has insisted this is not the case, but has failed to provide any evidence to support its stance.

SIPTU deferred strike action over the break up earlier this year after receiving assurances from the Taoiseach that the financial situation would be discussed.
