Tyrone spinning mill to lay off 250

The textile industry in Northern Ireland received more bad news as a Co Tyrone company told its workforce of more than 250 that they are to lose their jobs.

Management at Herdman's spinning mill in Sion Mills said last night that, in an attempt to overcome cost problems, manufacturing at the plant will have to cease.

Herdman's opened a plant in South Africa some time ago and it is expected the Tyrone production will be transferred there.
