FF opinion poll indicates low support for O’Neachtain

Fianna Fáil says an internal opinion poll indicates that the party's current Connaught/Ulster MEP, Sean O'Neachtain, does not have enough support to win back his seat in the forthcoming European elections.

The poll, which the party does not intend to publish, suggests that if the European elections took place today, Sean O'Neachtain would have difficulty reaching half a quota.

Mr O’Neachtain says he knows nothing about any poll, and would be 'suspicious' of its results.

There has been an ongoing row about the selection of the party's candidate but Mr O'Neachtain is adamant that he will contest the election.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Frank Fahey is allowing his name to go forward as a candidate in the North West constituency.
