Spanish confirm probe into 'Westies' disappearance

Police in Spain have confirmed gardaí have asked them to investigate the alleged disappearance of two leading members of the so-called ‘Westies’ criminal gang.

Shane Coates and Stephen Sugg fled to the Alicante area of Spain following a shootout between gardaí and members of the gang in Virginia, Co Cavan, last year.

Reports earlier this week claimed the pair were abducted from an apartment near Alicante and executed as part of a dispute over drugs.
