FG says e-voting launch shows bias

Fine Gael's North West candidate in the European elections Cllr Madeleine Taylor-Quinn has called for the suspension of the electronic voting system in the forthcoming European and local elections.

Cllr Taylor-Quinn said plans to launch the system should be put on hold until it has been scrutinised by a fully independent commission, and until it has the backing of all the major parties in the Oireachtas.

"There is clear evidence from today's launch that the electronic voting system has a distinct Fianna Fáil bias. Promotional material clearly shows a voter selecting the Fianna Fáil candidate on the voting machine. This is unacceptable and an insult to the electorate.

"Impartiality and balance is essential in the democratic process and this does not now exist. The system must be suspended immediately."
