Hospital consultants discuss minister's insurance plan
Hospital consultants are holding an emergency meeting in Dublin today to discuss Minister for Health Micheál Martin's plans to implement a new insurance scheme.
The Irish Hospital Constultants' Association says the Clinical Indemnity Scheme is a breach of contract and would leave doctors unfairly exposed financially.
The group's General Secretary, Finbar Fitzpatrick, says the minister is imposing for the first time a change of the doctors' contractual arrangement without an agreement.
Mr Fitzpatrick says Minister Martin must be shown that "he won't get away with it, and that above all he won't do it again".
