Two gardaí escaped injury this morning when their patrol car was forced off the road in Dundalk.

The incident happened at 4.30am when the gardaí came across a black Peugeot 206 on the Newry Road. The driver of the car threw an object at the patrol car and forced it down a six-foot embankment, into a ditch.

The car had earlier failed to stop for the PSNI in Newry.

The vehicle fled the scene. No arrests have yet been made.
