Football legend George Best has been charged with driving while over the legal alcohol limit, Scotland Yard said today.
The celebrity was charged after being arrested in the early hours of this morning in south-west London.
The 57-year-old former Manchester United star, originally from Northern Ireland, is due to appear before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said Best was charged today “with driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit”.
The star has had a troubled time in the last few months after reportedly hitting the bottle again.
Last November it was claimed Best threw bricks through the window of his wife’s car after he suspected her of having an affair.

On St Stephen's day last year, the former Northern Ireland player spent 10 hours under arrest in connection with an alleged assault.
Best was arrested in Reigate, the town where he used to share a house with his estranged wife.
At the time British police refused to confirm his identity, or the victim of the alleged assault, but said he was released without charge and that no accusations were being pursued “by any party”.
