Man in court accused of assault on republican

A man was remanded in custody today charged with assaulting a leading dissident republican at his home six years ago.

Hugh Sheerin, aged 37, of Marlborough Road, Derry, was charged with committing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a gun or imitation gun when he appeared at Derry Magistrates Court.
