Garrett Fitzgerald surprised by Barron report

Former Taoiseach Garrett Fitzgerald has told the Dáil’s Justice Committee that he was surprised at elements of the Barron report into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

Former Taoiseach Garrett Fitzgerald has told the Dáil’s Justice Committee that he was surprised at elements of the Barron report into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

Dr Fitzgerald was Minister for Foreign Affairs at the time of the atrocities.

The Barron report has accused the government of the time of showing little interest in the bombings.

However, Dr Fitzgerald told the committee the then government could not have interfered in the work of the gardaí.
