Drugs baron John Gilligan today won the right to appeal his conviction on two points of law in the Supreme Court.

Gilligan, 52, who was cleared of murdering journalist Veronica Guerin two years ago, is currently serving a 20-year sentence for the possession and supply of cannabis and five consecutive years for threatening to kill a prison officer’s family at Portlaoise prison.
