Tánaiste appoints PIAB chief

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has appointed Patricia Byron as chief executive of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, which is due to begin work later this year.

The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has appointed Patricia Byron as chief executive of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, which is due to begin work later this year.

Ms Byron has worked in the insurance industry for around 20 years and became the first female president of the Insurance Institute of Dublin in 1994.

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board was established in an effort to reduce exorbitant insurance premiums by removing solicitors from the claims process.
