Protestors gather for EC meeting in Dublin

A group of demonstrators has gathered to protest against the presence of EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy at a meeting of the European Commission in Dublin Castle today.

The Democracy and Public Services in Europe (DAPSE) organisation said Mr Lamy’s privatisation policies and his support for the GATS agreement pose a threat to public services throughout the EU.

DAPSE spokesman Conor O’Briain claims the GATS treaty could lead to the privatisation of health and education services, which would then be operated for profit rather than the public good.
