The 30-year-old mother-of-two who was seriously assaulted by her ex-partner in Cork last week remains in a critical condition in hospital today.

Anne Marie Sloane suffered serious head injuries when she was assaulted by her former partner, Sean O’Riordan, on Christmas Eve.

Ms Sloane had called to Mr O’Riordan’s home to drop off a Christmas present for her two-year-old son. The couple had split up around 10 weeks ago.

Mr O’Riordan left Ms Sloane lying injured in his garage before driving his car into the River Lee and drowning himself.

His body was recovered by navy divers and he was buried last Saturday.
