Concern has committed €200,000 and rescue workers to join the international effort to help the community in Bam in Iran, which was destroyed by a massive earthquake yesterday.

Experienced staff members will leave early next week to assist in the assessment of the situation on the ground.

Concern has received co-operation from the Iranian embassy in Dublin in getting their staff out to Iran as quickly as possible.

They are appealing to Irish people to offer donations by calling 1850 410 510.

Speaking today CEO Tom Arnold “ we are launching a public appeal for funds, which will supplement our initial commitment. I know that from next week onwards, our team will make a key contribution to helping the unfortunate people of Bam.”
