Mark Bissett, aged 18, was charged with assault causing harm to 54-year-old David Sutherland, whose body was found in a lane in Sallynoggin, south Dublin, in the early hours of Sunday.

He was kicked to death and died from severe head injuries.

Bissett, from Loughlinstown, was remanded in custody at Dublin District Court to appear again in a week.

Four others were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder but were all released without charge.

Mr Sutherland, from Sheelin Hill, Ballybrack, was homeless and had been living in various hostels around the city.

He was originally from O’Rourke Park, Sallynoggin, close to where his body was found.

The widower had no children and was known to police for minor criminal activity.
