Dalai Lama representative meets Govt

The Dalai Lama's European representative has held talks with the government to try and secure EU support for the struggle in Tibet.

Kesang Takla has urged the Government to use the forthcoming EU Presidency to help in the struggle for human rights in Tibet.

She says the Dalai Lama has requested the appointment of a Special EU Representative for Tibetan Affairs.

Meanwhile, the Government is allocating €200,000 to the development needs of the Tibetan community based in India.

The assistance will help the Tibet House Trust to fund programmes in India such as the improvement of agricultural practices in Tibetan settlements.

Unemployment and HIV/AIDS will also be targeted.
