Assault charges dropped against Steve Collins
A former world boxing champion who was accused of assaulting his girlfriend has had the charge against him dropped, the Crown Prosecution Service in England said today.
Steve Collins, 39, a former WBO middleweight champion, had faced a charge of common assault after police were called to the home he shares with Joanna Davies in Shoeburyness, Essex, last month.
Collins had been due to attend Southend Magistrates’ Court today after the CPS were given two weeks to review the case following his first appearance.
However, a spokeswoman confirmed the charge had been dropped due to “insufficient evidence”.
The court heard two weeks ago that Miss Davies had withdrawn a statement that she had given to police following the alleged incident.
