Fine Gael TD blames Carrickminders for costly M50 delays
The Dublin Fine Gael TD Olivia Mitchell has lashed out at the denial of the Carrickminders preservation group that their actions have caused costly delays to the M50 motorway.
Dep Mitchell said the delays to the project are costing the taxpayer millions and causing mitigated torture for people living and working in the area.
She warned the campaigners that they must not add insult to injury with "misleading assertions that their actions have not delayed the completion of the south eastern section of the M50 motorway".
Prior to the legal action, the projected completion date was late 2004 or early 2005. Now according to Dep Mitchell, "partial completion of the motorway, with a ludicrous 7km gap in the vicinity of Carrickmines, is expected in Autumn 2005".
Even more painful to taxpayers, she insists is the "additional millions they have had to bear as a direct result of the Carrickminders legal action".
