Smoking ban may be delayed until April

The implementation of the proposed ban on smoking in all Irish workplaces could be delayed until April, according to reports this morning.

The reports say that the legislation giving health and safety officers the power to check whether the ban was being adhered to would not be published until March or April.

The introduction of the proposed smoking ban has already been delayed until the end of February because of technicalities in the legislation governing the measure.

The ban was originally due to come into force on January 1.
