Almost one-quarter of Irish consumers expect to spend less this Christmas than they did last year, according to a survey conducted in six EU countries.

The survey predicted that the average Irish household would spend €1,066 this Christmas, 24% below the figure of €1,395 recorded in a similar study last year.
