Junior Minister Frank Fahey has come under fire from opposition parties after he did a U-turn on his position regarding Community Employment Schemes.

Junior Minister Frank Fahey has come under fire from opposition parties after he did a U-turn on his position regarding Community Employment Schemes.

Last week, Mr Fahey criticised the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, for failing to allocate funding which would avoid cutbacks to the CE schemes.

He was supported by a number of Fianna Fáil backbenchers and senators who are facing anger at local level over the cuts.

However, last night in the Dáil the Minister rowed in with the Government, and praised Charlie McCreevy for his financial policies.

He told the house that the cutbacks are not set in stone.
